When Veil was abandoned as an infant by his father, the kindhearted Bryony takes him in and raises him. But everyone at Redwall is concerned that the nature of his real father, the evil warlord Swartt Sixclaw, will show itself. Bryony, however, is convinced that Veil's goodness will prevail. Suddenly, Veil finds himself alone after he commits a crime that is unforgivable, and is banished from the abbey forever. Meanwhile, Swartt and his hordes of searats and vermin attack Redwall. Veil finds himself facing a tough decision: Should he join Swartt in battle against the only creature who has ever loved him? Or should he return his back on his true father? Recommended for ages 9 and up.
