In A Christian Manifesto, Schaeffer deals with the changes in the public declarations and principles as set forth by our Founding Fathers. This abolition of truth and morality has changed our thinking as well as our leaders in government. It has caused, Schaeffer says, Christians '... to see things in bits and pieces and not in totals. Christians have gradually become disturbed over permissiveness, pornography, the public schools, the breakdown of the family, and finally abortion.' But, unfortunately, they failed to see that this change is in the way we and our government leaders view the world-a change that is slowly taking us away from Christianity. In Pollution and the Death of Man, Schaeffer tells of how God has given man dominion over nature and how we, as Christians, must accept this stewardship. For with it comes the responsibility to keep the earth pure, just as God has given us the responsibility to keep our souls pure. Schaeffer: 'The simple fact is that if man is unable to solve his ecological problems, then man's resources are going to die... the whole problem of ecology is dumped into this generation's lap.' Some might call this a scientific issue to be solved by the scientist. But not Schaeffer. He shows us another side, and describes the role of both the scientist and the Christian in solving this grave and possibly fatal problem-and he does not excuse either. Unabridged.
