A guide for using Molly's Pigrim in the classroom. Based on the novel written by Barbara Cohen. This heartwarming story is sure to touch the lives of children and adults. It tells of a young jewish girl from Russia who moves to Winter Hill in the United States. There she encounters prejudice and intolerance. Molly's classmates make fun of her accent and her clothes. She wants to go back to New York or even return to Russia. For Thanksgiving, Molly's teacher asks everyone to bring in a Pilgrim doll. When Molly explains that a Pilgrim is ' someone who came from the other side looking for religious freedom,' Molly's mother makes a Russian peasant doll. Molly is afraid everyone will laugh at her. Her classmates do laugh at first, but Miss Stickley and Molly help the class learn the true meaning of Thanksgiving and that 'it takes all kinds of pilgrims to make a Thanksgiving.'
