This book takes place in Caesarea Maritima and Jerusalem at the time of Passover in 33 A.D. Jesus' separate encounters with two people, Governor Pontius Pilate and his wife Claudia, set the stage for The Eagle and the Stone, a series of novels that evoke the atmosphere of the first century. Their contrasting responses to Jesus--hers, faith, leading to a life-giving miracle, and his, doubt, leading to a sentence of death--have consequences that will affect not only their own lives but also the beginnings of the Church among the Gentiles.
