This book is a guide to New Testament words and deliberately avoids most of the words in Trench's work. Each group of words begins with the lexical definitions of the words found in Arndt and Fingrich, amplified when necesay by disctinctions given in Liddell and Scott and in Thayer. Also consulted were Moulton and Milligan's Vocabulary of the Greek New Testament and Kittel's Theological Dictionary and Cremer's Biblio-Theological Lexicon These words have been traced through classical Greek, the papyri, the Septuagint, the New Testament, and occasionally the writings of the apostolic fathers and later theological writers. The meanings these synonyms can convey are illustrated from as many of these sources as possible. Also included is a concise synonymy at the end of the discussion of each group of words as well as index of Greek words and the English translation.
