Edwards is often remembered as a 'hellfire and brimstone preacher.' However, bringing natural history, theology, biblical studies and philosophy together, Edwards stands out as one of the greatest minds in American history. The theme of the beauty and excellency of Christ was the one he addressed in his sermons and writings more than any other. It was this theme that drove Edwards, for he believed that once 'a divine and supernatural light' had invaded the soul and revealed the beauty of Christ to a sinner, that sinner could not but love the most beatiful object of all, the lovely Christ. Here are nine sermons from the published writings of Jonathan Edwards on the glory and excellency of Jesus Christ. Christ is here presented as 'the desire of all the nations,' and as 'the fairest of ten thousand.' Indeed, as Edwards shows, He is 'altogether lovely.'
