Leaving her home in Chicago, Elizabeth Mayfield traveled west to work for an elderly couple in Denver. The stagecoach she was traveling on was attacked by Cheyenne dog soldiers and she was taken captive. She was prepared to die as she face the warriors taunting her. 'The white woman will not die,' said the chief with authority. Elizabeth was stunned, her instincts to live were pulling at her heart with hope but reality was clouding that hope. Through her bravery she earned the right to live and later met an even greater challenge to earn respect among the Cheyenne people. Through her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, Elizabeth faced each day and each new trial. She quickly learned the ways of the Cheyenne people, but longed for the young mountain man, of which the chief spoke, to come soon and return her to a white settlement. The longer Elizabeth stayed at the cheyenne village, the more she felt at home. Would she be able to leave?
