The age of castles was both a magnificent and a terrible time. Castles were the center of medieval life, hosting fabulous banquets, jousts, and fairs. A castle was a home but it was also a fortress against enemy attack. In the Middle Ages land was the key to power and wealth, and land was controlled from castles.
