Cistercian Chant is a distinctive dialect of Latin sacred monody. By 1098, when the 'New Monastery' at Citeaux was founded, the monastic repertory established some two centuries earlier had already begun to pass from oral tradition to scribal transmission. A new system of notation that could be sung at sight gave instantaneous rise to new chant production. The spirtuality of the first Cistercians led them to examine every aspect of their monastic lives, and they devoted themselves as assiduously to the theory and practice of chant as to the architecture of the sacred spaces their sung prayer was to fill. With this CD make your home a sacred space resounding in the full voiced glory of Cistercian chant.
