The Hermeneia series of commentaries is a very critical and scholarly treatment of the scriptures. This volume is by the German scholar Eduard Lohse. The work begins with an introductory section regarding structure, occasion, time and place of the letter. The commentary itself is an in-depth linguistic and historic analyses of the text, focusing on drawing out the message of Colossians and Philemon. This is definitely a scholarly book.
