Confessing Our Faith: An Interpretation of the Statement of Faith of the United Church of Christ. This interpretation of Christian faith - organized in terms of 'the Great Story' of scripture, not topically like the classical creeds - is an example of the 'narrative theology' of our times. It is an interpretation, in some ways a reinterpretation, of the Statement of Faith of the UCC which was adopted in 1959. Since that time a variety of theological movements has stirred the churches and two revisions of the original Statement of Faith were drafted to respond to those movements. This book describes the process which involved local churches and international discussion and which led to the original Statement of Faith. It also reports the history of the revisions and the reasons for them. It then presents a sentence by sentence commentary on the text of the latest revision. It indicates where the statement expresses firm convictions and where it encourages continued discussion among people of differing beliefs within the church. It points out issues that will require further consideration as the UCC continues to work toward its declared aim of collaborating with other churches in the development of a new statement of faith.
