Daily Skills Practice: Grades 1-2 was designed to cover a wide range of skills and concepts typically introduced or reviewed during a school year. The practice pages provide a quick assessment of how a child is performing on a particular skill or with a specific concept. In addition, the activities in this book provide teachers, children, and parents with consistent, daily feedback on a child's academic progress. Practice Page Sections: Each practice page is divided into following three sections: Five-a-Day: consists of five math problems. Generally, there are three math problems and two word problems. The Five-a-Day section covers basic addition and subtraction skills. These include money, skip counting, measuring, fact families, place value, and time. Sentence-a-Day: Each day's sentence contains at least two mistakes; a capital letter is needed at the beginning of the sentence and the appropriate punctuation (period, question mark, or exclamation point) is needed at the end of the sentence. The Sentence-a-Day section also covers subject-verb agreement, capitalization of proper nouns, and correct pronoun usage. Read each sentence aloud and let the child know how many errors are in the senctence. Ask the child to state the error and how the error can be corrected. The child circles each error in the sentence and crosses out any words that are not needed. He or She then write the sentence correctly on the lines provided. Language Arts Skills: Each day, one specific skill or concept is presented. This section is an effective way to quickly preview or review a skill or to introduce a new concept to the child.
