The Kingdom of Denmark is the smallest country on the Scandinavian peninsula. It is a flat land with only a few rolling hills- in fact it has been said that you can see the whole country standing on a box. Denmark is also a land of islands with about 500 of them altogether. The feared Viking pirates sailed for centuries from its shores, raiding and looting all along the coasts of Europe and Britain. Danish towns contain picturesque houses and twisting streets, and its farms are spread across large parts of the countryside, models for the rest of Europe. Copenhagen, its capital city, is a beautiful mix of old and new with well-planned avenues, tree-lined streets, magnificent buildings, and majestic palaces. The Danes taditionally fly their flag often and with great pride, for theirs is a beautiful and treasured culture and country. Ages 9-12
