The Enneagram is, at it's core, a New Age psychology influenced by, among other things, Islamic (Sufi) and Jewish (Kabballah) mysticism, Buddhism, and the humanistic psychologies of Jung and Freud. Strangely, this 'personality type classification system' (like the Jung-influenced Meyers-Briggs test) has developed a following in America, and has been introduced to many Catholic Christians. This book is not a refutation of the belief system, but rather will give Zuerchner's understanding and explanation of the system as she utilizes it in her teachings. She shows how it has been re-envisioned for use within the Christian church while remaining loyal to its mystical and non-Christian roots.
