At the center of the life of the Christian community is the meal where bread and wine are taken, blessed, broken, and shared. This simple action has given rise to a history of eucharistic traditions which reflect the cultural diversity characteristic of the regions in which they were produced. The author traces the evolution of these traditions to our eucharistic celebrations today and, in the context of these traditions, explores the relationship between eucharist and justice.
