This book goes where few others have gone. It explores the early women leaders in the evolution of Christian spirituality. Early church histories frequently make brief comments of women dwelling in the desert, living as urban solitaries, or residing in or near monastic ommunities. Palladius, in his Lausiac History, estimated that the women outnubered the men two to one, and yet it still is the stories of the men, not the women, that are preserved and told.
