Our heavenly Father has to do a work in us, a preparation for His anointing that will rest upon us and become so strong that it will overflow onto others. As part of this preparation, through a sovereign work of His Spirit, God slowly but surely creates in us a channel through which His blessings can flow to others. We are like rock through which a channel must be cut. There is a process involved in this cutting that God does in us, a process that some find unpleasant. Just as a natural river cuts its way across the landscape, widening and deepening itself as it goes, until it becomes a mighty rushing stream, God's Spirit is at work in our lives, deepening and widening our ability to receive Him and, therefore, to pour forth His goodness to others. The process begins with the very first levels of anointing that we experience and continues with every touch of God that we subsequently receive. With every touch, the Master is carving out His channels of blessing in us.
