In this study, Roger Ellsworth counters the current trend in scholarship of the Song of Solomon to 'de-spiritualize' the book and explain it only as love poetry. Ellsworth argues that there is much in the Song that Christians can use to understand and enrich their relationship with Christ. By demonstrating the elements that make the poetry and then showing how we may apply those to Christ, Ellsworth gives Christian readers reason to treasure the Song of Solomon. Roger Ellsworth, at the time of this commentary's writing, was pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton, Illinois. He has also served as trustee of South-Eastern Baptist Seminary in North Carolina, and president of Illinois State Baptist Association.
