Isaiah 1-12: Continental Commentary Series [CCS]

Isaiah 1-12 is teh first of three volumes of Hans Wildberger's commentary on Isaiah 1-39 in the Continental commentary Series. English readers now have access to the most exhaustive and, in many respects, the most helpful analysis of a major prophetic voice from Israel in the 8th Century B.C.E. The pattern of other Old Testament volumes in the Continental Commentary Series is followed here also. Each successive unit of the text is treated under six headings:

• Literature
• Form: literaryGattung and metrical pattern
• Setting: date, place, Sitz em Laben, authenticity
• Commentary: verse-by-verse discussion of what the text meant to its original hearers/readers
• Purpose and Thrust: the theological intention of the text.
