Jamaica wanted to go shoot baskets at the playground with her big brother, Ossie. 'I don't want you to tag along,' Ossie said, 'We're going to play serious ball.' But Jamaica did tag along. She watched Ossie and Jed and Buzz and Maurice shoot baskets. It's not fair she thought. Maurice is shorter than I am. Even when Jamaica proved to the boys how quick she was, they wouldn't let her play. Two on a team was all they needed. It was no fun being left out. That's where Jamaica met Berto and learned what it was like to be on the other side.
