Its subjects range from God to Man, Eternal to Temporal, Sin to Self-Denial, Passive Belief to Passionate Commitment, etc. Kierkegaard said of himself: 'My whole authorship pertains to Christianity... .' 'What do I care about the world's honor and glory, and what do I care about its ridicule and scorn, indeed, what do I care about its ridicule and scorn, indeed, what do I care about myself if only God may be honored.' Kierkegaard's ideas are timeless: There is only one relation to revealed truth: believe it. We have Christ's word that there is an eternal life, and with that the matter is decided. They are important: Do not doubt whether you are immortal? Tremble, because you are immortal. They are contemporary: The majority of people are willing to be grateful when they receive a good gift, but then they demand that it be left to them to decide which gift is good. They are the Gospel: No friend has ever been able to be more than faithful unto death, be he remained faithful in death--his death was indeed my salvaton.
