Letters and Sounds helps kindergartners to recognize and write the uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet, to understand that each letter represents a sound, and to hear the sound at the beginning of a word. (At this level, only one sound per letter is presented, the short vowel, or the hard consonant.) Children will begin to understand that sounds of letters blend to form the words they will learn to read and write.
