Lyrical Life Science, Volume 1, includes a cassette of folk-style songs with lyrics containing science terminology. The words are set to familiar tunes such as 'Oh, Susanna,' 'Battle Hymn of the Republic,' 'Shortnin' Bread,' and 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home.' The book includes simple pen drawings and uncluttered pages. While completing the chapters in the book, the student reviews the lyrics learned from the songs. For upper grades, the workbooks are especially helpful. Each chapter begins with a lyric page, and the student fills in the science terminology missing from the verses. The essay page requires narration. This volume contains 11 chapters covering the following topics: Scientific Method, All Living Things, Invertebrates, Cold-blooded vertebrates, Birds, Introduction to Plants; Algae, Fungi, and Non-vascular Plants; Vascular Plants, Protozoa, Genetics, Viruses, and Bacteria. Highly recommended by Karen Andreola. Recommended for middle school age children.
