A disgruntled polar bear cub achieves his unlikely dream in Holtei's winsome environmental tale. Weary of wandering through the snow in search of food, Nanuk and his mother Anaana enter a human village for some easy eats. There he receives his first introduction to the human way of life. Noisy machines and mud-soiled snow leaves Nanuk singularly unimpressed. An impromptu foray into a store sends Nanuk and Anaana to Polar Bear Jail. There he learns his dream to fly will come true as cub and mother are relocated via helicopter. End pages contain information on Churchill, Manitoba, the actual town in Canada where these events routinely occur, as well as pertinent polar bear facts.
