On the Incarnation, though completed before the full force of the Arian controversy over the Trinity was felt, provided the first major theological articulation of the doctrine of teh incarnation and defense of orthodox trinitarianism. Though ratified by the Nicean council, Athanasius' views cost him dearly and yet the orthodox position has held sway in church history.
This background establishes Athanasius' work as a basic required text for understanding the Christian tradition for liturgical, theological, and individual reasons. Christians will find here much wrestle with, much to learn from, and much worth submitting the mind to.
