Jan doesn't care that the other girls at school tease her about 'going steady' with her horse, Dove. As long as she has Dove, she's content with her life. But when it becomes apparent that Dove needs an operation on one of his legs, Jan becomes terrified that she might lose him. Money has been tight ever since Dad died, and Mom simply doesn't have enough to pay for the surgery. The situation seems hopeless. But Mattie, a resident of the assisted-living facility next door, may have a solution. Jan has been kind to Mattie, and now Mattie wants to do something for her young friend. Is it possible for a lonely old woman and a needy girl to change each other's lives?
