In her inimitable style, the popular speaker, story-teller, and author of Not Counting Women and Children invites us to listen again to the parables of Jesus. As they did for their first listeners, the parables intrigue and inspire, sometimes puzzle, but always point us unerringly toward the Kingdom. Like arrows, they pierce straight to the truth, and straight to the heart of the listener, opening up new understanding of our lives as Christians. Parables brings home to us that these stories Jesus used to teach are practical, down-to-earth stories told for and to ordinary people - people like ourselves, with worries about food and shelter, work, and family life. But the parables never let us off the hook. If our lives belong to the Kingdom of God, much is given, but much is also asked of us.
