In many Methodist circles, there is an increasing awareness of the grinding realities of poverty and oppression that are the daily experience of a substantial part of the world's population. The essays in this volume offer a broad range of relfections and viewpoints focusing on the relationship of the Wesleyan tradition to poor and marginalized persons around the globe. This book presents the major lectures given at the Ninth Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies, which met at Somerville College in Oxford, England, July 28-August 7, 1992. The Institute, which takes place once every five years, gathered more than two hundred Methodist scholars and leaders from around the world for two weeks of intensive study and discussion on the them of 'Good News to the Poor in the Wesleyan Tradition.'
