The aim of this book is to help children read precisely, imaginatively, actively, and to bring to the process their own experiences. If they enjoy learning to read, and see purpose in their reading, they will become able readers, aware of reading as a way to advance the many purposes in their life. This book is divided into sections emphasizing four main purposes: reading for personal and social matters, reading for practical use, reading for information, and reading for enjoyment and growth in inmagination. Each section guides students through stages of the reading process.
