This book is divided into sections emphasizing four main purposes: reading for personal and social matters, reading for practical use, reading for information, and reading for enjoyment and growth in imagination. Each section helps students through stages of the reading process by bringing their own experiences to what they are about to read by attaching what they already know to new material. They come to understand the material, interpret and infer new ideas, evaluate by checking to see whether the material applies to their purpose for reading it and think back on what they have read to determine what they have gained. Answer key is included.
