This volume represents the first major attempt to apply James E. Loder's programmatic work in practical theology. Thirteen able scholars here explore how Loder's profound theological motif of 'redemptive transformation' relates directly to issues of fundamental importance to contemporary church life. The first six essays examine core practices of the church, including baptism, communion, preaching, biblical interpretation, leadership, and youth ministry. The next five essays focus more broadly on the meaning and shape of practical theology to discern and to give order to the relation of divine action to human action revealed in Christ. The last three essays bring James Loder's work into dialogue with philosophy and mystical theology. Also included are a substantive biography and bibliography of Loder's life and work.
