From the same school district that developed the Ridgewood Analogy Series, thesse new grammar books introduce third-, fourth-, and fifth- grade students to a close study on the parts of speech and the functions of parts of speech in sentences. Emphasis is on the link between grammar study and clear, effective writing. Among the topics covered are action and linking verbs, verb tenses, irregular verbs, singular and plural, common and proper nouns, subjects, pronouns, possessives, contractions, words commonly confused, objects, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, and the words they modify, the four types of sentences, and compound sentences. The Ridgewood Grammar books contain numerous exercises such as determining patterns, completing charts, and error analysis that expand the introductory definitions and samples. Writing exercises allow students to practice the new concepts in context. Charts that can be used for ongoing reference are included. Practice exercises are ample.
