S. Mark Heim picks up the pluralist debate in theology. Current debate has focused on breaking down the exclusivity of Christianity in order to include truth from other religions. The debate has usually ended in an impass between those supporting a fully pluralistic conclusion that sees all religions leading to the same goal and those supporting an exclusivist position that does not value or dialogue with other religions. Heim attempts to go beyond this impass with the following thesis: it makes more sense to speak of salvation in the plural, to maintain that the ends of various religions are indeed varied and significantly constituted by the paths taken to reach them. At the same time, all paths-Christianity included-can and must make or require exclusive commitments on the part of those that hold them.
