Designed for students who learn to read most easily through the phonetic-analytic methods, most of the featured vocabulary is structured to promote reading for meaning. Book 5 introduces consonant blends and digraphs, including '-le' and silent letters; modified short vowels (e.g., push, wash); two-syllable (VCCV) words and compound words (containing known sight words); phonetic contractions; the titles 'Miss,' 'Mr.,' 'Mrs.,' 'Ms.'; and some sight words such as 'again,' 'begin,' and 'there.'
