A sixteen-year-old boy is beginning to wonder about his future as he makes the transition from boyhood to manhood. Neighboring dogs have been disappearing, and suddenly his own dog vanishes. An uncle comes to help the family find the dog, which has been stolen by a ring of men who train dogs for fighting. Uncle Jack examines clues and devises a trap for the men. What follows is a rather gritty description of the battle to retrieve the dogs. In the aftermath, Uncle Jack tells the boy, Luke, about his faith and code of conduct.
