This syllabus was developed by Rosalie Slater using the Notebook Method to present a literary study of the book and the author, with a background study of the Christian principles and leading ideas exemplified in the history of the American expansion, such as Christian self-government, the importance of the Christian church as an anchor in pioneering America, and pilgrim-pioneer character of self-sufficiency and integrity that is a direct outgrowth of American Christian Civil government.
