Thomas Oden is a major American Protestant Theologian, currently teaching at Drew University. This volume is part two of his three volume Systematic Theology. VOLUME TWO: THE WORD OF LIFE deals with Christology (Volume one deals with the doctrine of God; volume 3 deals with the doctrine of the Holy Spirit). In this book Oden exhaustively presents the doctrines concerning the person and work of Christ, with detailed analysis of the numerous theories relating to this from various theologians throughout church history. The author writes in his preface: 'My purpose is to set forth the classical teaching of the person and work of Jesus Christ on which there has generally been substantial agreement between traditions of East and West, Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox.' His tone, then, emphasizes the ecumenical common ground in theology. He resists technical jargon in an attempt to keep this material intelligible. The book's four parts are as follows: Word Made Flesh Our Lord's Earthly Life He Died for our Sins Exalted Lord
