Jeffrey Wilson explains, 'This treatise was borne out of a deep conviction that modern-day Christianity, as it is in evidence in most places, is far removed from biblical roots. In fact, the deviation is so far from true Christianity, as it is revealed in the New Testament, that there is only a superficial resemblance.' Wilson argues that hybrid Christianity which is man-centered and worldly is endemic in the Western world, particularly in the United States. The root cause of this situation is traced to a false assumption that you can be a Christian by having Christ as Savior, but you don't need to receive and serve Him as Lord. Wilson contrasts this view with study of Scripture and directly challenges readers to return to the authentic gospel which Christ and the apostles preached and taught.
