Based on the novel written by Barbara Robinson. The Herdmans are, without a doubt, the worst kids that ever lived. They burn down buildings, smoke cigars, and grow pussy willows in their ears. They are the biggest bullies in the school, using blackmail and bruises to get their way. But none of the six Herdmans ever, ever get kept back in a grade Even though Claude Herdman didn't know his ABC's nor his colors, shapes, or numbers, he still passed first grade. If he didn't pass, Miss Brandel would have had both Claude and Ollie together in her class, and no teacher was crazy enough to let herself in for two Herdmans at once. It all begins when Mrs. Armstrong breaks her leg. Mother takes over the Christmas pageant, but she never dreams that before she is through, the whole town will be upset with her. The Herdmans are suddenly very interested in church, having been told they can find plenty of dessert there. Before long, they bully their way into being the main cast for the pageant. Everyone shows up for the pageant just to see what havoc the Herdmans will wreck. But the biggest surprise of all comes from the Herdmans themselves. They had never heard the Christmas story before this year, yet their interpretation truly makes it the 'best Christmas pageant ever.'
