The Cay follows the torpedo-survivor Phillip, a young boy. He finds himself on a small raft in the middle of the sea with an old West Indian, Timothy. As Phillip's head injury makes him blind and dependent on Timothy, he learns to overcome prejudices as they struggle to survive together.
