There is a basic contradiction in the church between the profession of 'one holy, catholic and apostolic church' and the current state of division in the church itself. There is a growing movement for churches to unite under one confession of faith. As essential step in this process is for Christians to seek to deepen and clarify their understanding of their faith in the light of their own respective traditions. Such is the purpose of this book. It seeks to understand the profession of faith concerning the church, in the light of the Roman Catholic tradition.
