Tottie Plantaganet was a Dutch farthing antique doll, and she lived with Mr. Plantaganet (who originally came with a kilt and bagpipes, which were spoilt by his previous children), Mrs. Plantaganet (who, being celluloid and having something rattling in her head, was rather flighty), little plush Apple, and the dog Darner (called so because he had a darning-needle backbone). Their children were Emily and Charlotte, and more than anything, they wished for a real dollhouse. When a great-aunt dies and leaves them with the dollhouse Tottie used to live in, it also comes with an unexpected visitor.
