The New Testament provides a clear reason for the appearance of deacons. They are special church servants. The high qualifications expected of them suggest that they are also to be leaders in congregational life. While the primary purposes of this book are to portray deacon trends of the past and present and to offer some practical possibilities for future deacon development, the beginning point is the Bible.
