Viewed in its history, the United Church of Christ offers a diversity of theological heritage (Reformation, Enlightenment, and Pietism), congregational and presbyterian polities, liberal theological approaches, all stirred with an ecumenical spirit. Walker is associate professor of church history at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, and an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.
