The letters in this volume cover the period from the time when Cornelius was well enough established as bishop within Rome to be able to convene a Council of Italian Bishops- by (approximately) mid 251 or so- to about the period when Stephen was replacing Cornelius' successor, Lucius, in late spring of 254.
