Though Thomas Howard admits to being neither priest, theologian, nor liturgiologist he is a most perceptive layman who presents a beginner's course in the liturgy, a first step in the understanding of the pagentry that we put forth when we come to worship God. This is not only an intellectual treatise but also one of love by one who has fallen, by his own admission, 'head over heels' for the liturgy. He goes on to explain as only one who is in love can the workings and the intricacies of what we do and why we do it when we come to worship He who is love itself.
