Sister Juanita entitled this work The Manhattan Psalter, reflecting her background as a New Yorker and as a Latina. The language is contemporary. It began as a personal project of appropriation of the Psalms as her own prayer. Sister Juanita revised the Psalter at least five times and was encouraged to publish it, but she died before she finished typing the manuscript.
