The first section of the book, on the truth of the new covenant, from chapter one through chapter six, was given by Brother Watchman Nee in a conference held in Shanghai in 1931. This section reveals that the new covenant has always been a part of God's plan. The second section, on the experience of the new covenant, chapters seven and eight, was messages given to the church in Shanghai in 1949 by Brother Witness Lee. This section emphasizes forgiveness, freedom, and an inner understanding of God that He has progressively revealed to his people.
