Short-term missions should not be a one-time event. First of all, the preparation and follow-up to the actual trip should be part of the whole experience, and, secondly, a trained individual should be able to access his memories and thoughts to encourage him for the next trip, leading to a continuing cycle repeating each year (or more often). In this all-ages version of his mission manual 'Goer Guide', Brian Heerwagen encourages a full spectrum of lead-up and follow-up that broadens the experience and makes it a true event in the lives of the missionaries. By encouraging mentors, journaling, and full-church involvement with the mission, Heerwagen refocuses the local church to include missions in an ongoing, active and dynamic way to reach the world with the message of salvation.
