Daniel Karlin's selection of poetry written and published during the reign of Queen Victoria gives pride of place to Tennyson, Robert Browning and Christina Rossetti but also offers generous selections from other major poets such as Arnold, Emily Bronte, Hardy and Hopkins. It makes room for several poem-sequences in their entirety and is notable for its discovery and inclusion of poets who squarely refuse to 'represent' their period.
